If you read my wedding post, you'll know that I'm not really in a celebratory mood these days. I can't go for more than five minutes without thinking about and missing my father, so as you can imagine it was hard for me to celebrate my birthday without him. I did, however, try to pack a lot of activities into the weekend so I kept myself occupied. One night we went for a big family dinner - a yearly tradition - and this is what I wore.

I also got a Kindle
for my birthday. My love for real books will never fade, but I'm a newly converted e-book reader now; on my first night I read Madame Pamplemousse & Her Incredible Edibles
(as recommended by Erika) and I've just started King Dork
(as recommended by Sherin). I'd love book recommendations if you have any!
Sadly I did get a little bit sick, so the theme for the rest of the weekend was relaxation. I spent time with friends and family and treated myself to a mani/pedi to make me feel a bit better. Now I'm ready to face the week, accompanied with all my new toys, of course!

The shoes were extremely uncomfortable... my feet were numb by the end of the night! I've resigned myself to the fact that my feet just don't like shoes of any kind. It's hard for me to find heels or even flats that are comfortable. The only shoes that I can actually walk in are my Fit Flops
, but they rarely leave the house!

Thank you for all of your camera recommendations. I still think that proper SLRs are too big to carry around all the time, so I think I'm going to get an Olympus Pen
. My cousin just bought one and I think it's amazing, and so easy to use for a novice photographer like myself!

I was completely spoiled on my birthday by my family who gave me such lovely presents! Most of them were electronic items, which was great for a gadget geek like myself.
I may be 23 but I'm still a kid inside ;)

ReplyDeleteLeia, Happy Birthday!!! I lost my mother almost 6 years ago. It DOES get a bit easier, but to this day I still miss her. I just remind myself that living my life passionately honors her the most. (I realize that that sounds a bit hokey, but it really is how I feel) You look so lovely in that dress! I have a Nook Color and absolutely love it! Enjoy your Ipad also....my hubby loves his! Big Birthday hugs! ~Serene
ReplyDeleteMy beautiful friend, it is only normal that you miss your father. Who wouldn´t? But think that he wants to see you smiling.

ReplyDeleteHappy belated birthday darling. You looked so amazing. And as for your shoe complaints that's exactly how I feel about almost every brand of shoe even the supposedly comfortable ones like ecco and rockport. I guess we just have senietive feet. :)
ReplyDeleteIt must be very difficult to come to terms with the loss of your wondeful father. Glad you had a nice time tho - great pressies! xx
ReplyDeleteThat is such a lovely dress! Beautiful lace!
ReplyDeleteLooking good, Happy Birthday! The shoes are lovely but if they're uncomfortable that's no good. Dunno how women put up with such discomfort. I'd at least try to modify them or something... Duct tape padding on the inside hah
ReplyDeleteYou look stunning... I love all these ivory/cream/white looks!! ♥
